the story of mr bobby

Bobby was rescued from a breeder/trainer, who was going to put him to sleep because he wouldn’t chase the ‘hare’ and was, therefore, no use for racing.  He was about 2 years old.  The lady, who rescued him, didn’t really want to take Bobby because she had gone to the trainer for another dog, a female greyhound, that she wanted to adopt.  The trainer said that the other dog had been homed but that she could have Bobby, who would be put to sleep, if she didn’t take him. The lady took Bobby and kept him for about 3 months.  She helped him to get better and he put on weight living with her too  (he had a bad skin complaint, called mange and he was very underweight).

The lady found that she couldn’t keep Bobby because she had to go into hospital, so Action For Greyhounds took him and asked me to have him.  Bobby was only supposed to be with me until another home was found for him but I just couldn’t let him go, so he stayed and will stay with me for the rest of his life.

Bobby has become our School’s animal action club, mascot.  He goes on visits to Animal Sanctuaries, with the Club and he has been in to school, for filming with Anglia Television and BBC Newsround.  He is a registered PAT dog (Pets as Therapy) which means he can go into hospitals to visit the sick people and into old people’s homes too.

Bobby is a very gentle greyhound and is always welcomed by people who see that he is kind and loving.
